I found this @conservancy talk from Kyle Rankin made a lot of very good points: "Free Software Policy With Semi-Firm Firmware"

In the past, I was very excited about the FSF Respects Your Freedom certification and bought a lot of hardware on the list. But to be honest, RYF does not recognize how modern hardware works.

For example, neither bunnie's novena or @mntmn's mnt reform laptops qualify, which is a bit silly given they are the most open laptops I have ever seen. I'm excited by the points Kyle raised in this talk and I hope it will lead to a new criteria to evaluate the openness of computing devices.

The MNT reform has at last one processor board that, with an additional controller for external display and an FSDG compliant distro, would qualify for RYF certification.
