I just installed Trisquel GNU/Linux on a MacBookPro 13,2 from 2013, everything works (including speakers, microphone, camera) except wifi but I have a USB wifi adapter for that. I followed the default installation options, with ciphering and LVM), easy.
If you wonder whether your computer could work with Trisquel GNU/Linux, make a live USB, boot on it, select "Try Trisquel without installing". If all pieces of hardware work (or at least all what you want to use), then you can go with a user-friendly free software only distro with a nice support community.
